SmartShield to Grow Retail Presence to More Than1200 Doors This Summer

SmartShield Sunscreen is under new management and taking retail by storm. For the past 14 years SmartShield has been servicing government agencies and the military. For much of that time the military made up for more than half of SmartShield’s annual sales. New owner Jane Leonard saw an opportunity to grow the business and get the products into the hands of average consumers like herself.
Thanks to a well-crafted social media/blogger campaign, a relationship with the PGA, coverage on the Today Show and in O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine SmartShield has been able to grow their online business by more 300% and open 100’s of specialty retailers in the last two years.
SmartShield has always been a favorite among anglers and outdoor enthusiast so it was only natural that Jane focused SmartShield's resources and built relationships with specialty and professional channels. Today, SmartShield has product in more than 200 pro shops and a solid presence in various skate, ski and surf shops.
Several hotel chains have taken an interest in the sunscreen line and placed SmartShield products in the hotel store as well as in rooms, for direct purchase. “Hotels love that our formula is non-oily so it will not stain clothing or their guest towels and it doesn't leave a greasy residue on pool water so equipment maintenance is kept to a minimum” reports Tyler Thomas, VP of Sales, SmartShield.
Right now SmartShield products can be found in select Bass Pro Shops, Tractor Supply Stores, Lukes Locker as well as HEB. “We have new retailers in the pipeline and hope to announce those relationships soon” continues Thomas.
